Five Tips for Maintaining Your Health

How can you maintain your health? It’s simple follow these five tips, and you’ll be doing all you can to maintain the health of your body and mind.

Exercise Regularly

While exercise isn’t a cure-all, it can contribute to feeling better and maintaining a healthy weight. One study found that regular exercise 30 minutes per day of moderate activity five days per week can increase levels of two hormones that help control hunger and regulate metabolism. A Swedish review of dieting studies conducted over 50 years suggests exercise also helps prevent middle-age spread by revving up your metabolism and helping you maintain lean muscle mass.

When You’re Sick: Being sick is no fun, but if you have a cold or other minor ailment, you don’t need to cancel all plans. Lately, I’ve been taking Emergen-C, which has helped when I was feeling under the weather. I also take hot tea and chicken soup; according to one recent study in The Journal of Nutrition, chicken soup with added scallions might help reduce inflammation caused by a cold or flu virus. Still not sure what to do?

Get enough sleep

Enough sleep is essential to feeling rested and energized and can help boost your immune system. Get eight hours of sleep every night so you’re at your best physically, mentally, and emotionally. The amount of sleep you need varies from person to person, but most adults need seven to nine hours each night. Keep in mind that some people naturally require more or less sleep than others so be sure to listen to your body.

Eat a healthy diet

Eating a healthy diet is one of your best defenses against illness. If you’re going to maintain a healthy weight, it’s also important to watch what you eat—and what you drink. A 20-ounce Mountain Dew contains nearly 400 calories; a half-gallon of ice cream boasts more than 1,000 calories! Overconsumption like that won’t help you maintain your health—or keep those extra pounds at bay.

On average, men should consume no more than 2,500 calories per day and women no more than 2,000 both numbers are cut in half if you’re trying to lose weight. So read nutrition labels carefully and aim for foods low in fat and sugar (under 10 percent). Plus: Drink plenty of water! Staying hydrated helps your body stay lean. You might even think about tracking how much water you drink each day as part of your weight-loss plan.

Protect yourself from germs

Germs are everywhere and getting sick is an unavoidable part of life. If you want to protect yourself from germs, follow these five tips:

1) Clean your hands frequently

2) Cook your food properly

3) Practice good hygiene

4) Don’t share personal items such as clothing or utensils with others without washing them first

5) Avoid physical contact with people who are sick. Doing so can help you maintain your health throughout your lifetime.

Don’t drink alcohol excessively In moderation, alcohol has many benefits but consuming it in excess isn’t one of them. Drinking too much causes you to consume more calories and lose control over what you eat, thereby hindering your weight loss goals. Just like sugar, alcohol should be consumed in moderation to maintain a healthy lifestyle when trying to lose weight.

Add mindfulness to your routine

Mindfulness is an important key to maintaining your health. By incorporating mindful breathing and meditation into your routine, you can increase focus and clarity and help prevent stress-related issues. To get started, try setting aside a few minutes each day to sit quietly with your eyes closed clear your mind of all thoughts; breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth open your eyes when you’re ready. The next time you feel overwhelmed by stress or anxiety, try taking five deep breaths it really does work!
